Place your cursor anywhere on the report canvas and select Shapes. In creating the rectangle shape I did Format Shape--Fill--Solid and changed color to No fill. To add a text to the shape I am using the TextFrame property.
Click once again on the shape preview thumbnail in the Options Bar to open the Shape Picker then click on a different shape to select it.
